Episode 13: Houston May Be Ugly, But…

It’s National Camera Day and National Waffle Iron Day. Nhat’s apartment complex catches on fire the last night his brother and sister were staying at his place. So this wasn’t actually explained in the podcast, but the title of this one stems from the time right after the fire was contained.. His brother remarks, “Houston may be ugly, but we don’t have shit like that happening….”

Yes, because buildings just spontaneously burst into flames every other day here.  It was just an absurd statement from my brother, who, with his girlfriend, are always trying to bring Colorado down a notch or two because they’re stuck in Houston.  We’re not entirely sure why.  We also talk about whiny celebrities, being offensive to drum up tweets and attention in general and Nhat believes that the Ewok language may have had its roots in the Cambodian language.

We have more bands for our “Who’s Shittier?” segment and there’s some real crap this week.  We discuss how we feel obligated to maintain appearances online, even though we don’t really need to.

Episode 12: Keep On Livin’ Ya Know

We get a little serious for the first part of this podcast and talk about mental illness in the family, deadbeat friends and just life in general. Then we go over the pros and cons of working in corporate America and what to expect if you’re thinking of “dwelving” (as Tony would say) into that world. Nhat makes a bet with Tony that we’ll eventually get a tweet from a listener before the 20th episode and winner buys lunch.

Intro song of the week:

“Emotional Blackmail” – Angkor Wat

Episode 11: Hulking Out And Going Green

Tony had quite the eventful time this past weekend, what with volunteering at the Denver Comic Con and all and then meeting his childhood hero, Lou Ferrigno… Little did he know, that wouldn’t be all the excitement he’d have, but not in any way he would have ever expected. Tune in to find out what happens.

“Victory” – Dark Lunacy

Episode 10: Happy Upsy Daisy Best Friends Day

It’s June 8, 2014 and it’s also National Best Friend Day and National Upsy Daisy Day. Nhat is flattered that Tony is spending Best Friend’s Day with him and Tony wants to throw up in his mouth. We both lament that we wish we had known earlier that we were supposed to be more positive for National Upsy Daisy Day. We play some terrible music to try and determine which one of them was the top of the shit heap. The band Harlequin wins by a long shot with their turd, Heaven (Dial 999).  Listen to it HERE, if you dare. Nhat gives up on relationships in general because he has better things to do. Corporate creeps are brought up, Tony’s working (and defending the lives of artists) at the Denver Comic Con, and we talk about weird murder-y people in general.

We started our podcast with Death Angel’s “Ultra-Violence,” so we figured it was fitting to have another Death Angel song on our 10th podcast.. one that we both agree “fucking rocks”… “Discontinued,” from their best album, Act III.

Episode 10: Happy Upsy Daisy Best Friends Day

Intro song of the week:

“Bleed” – Meshuggah

Episode 09 (Part 1): We’re Not Metal Enough

Tony and Nhat cover social media and if it’s fucking people up and dabble a bit in a few metal subjects, but mainly came to the conclusion that they’re not metal enough. Shout out to the Death Metal Dorkery podcast that contacted us last week as they seem to be well metal enough for all of us.

We talk about kids – what are they really good for? Just kidding.. They’re just not really our thing, but more power to you if you have one. Tony realizes that even with his new raise, he can’t afford a heroine addiction and we’re still waiting to hear from a reliable source where to get score some. We’re kidding. No, but seriously… what is Twitter good for if not for that?

Episode 09 (Part 1): We’re Not Metal Enough

Intro song of the week:

“Do Not Go Gently” – Animals As Leaders

Outro song of the week:

“Ride Out Bitch” – Vaux

Episode 08: Sobriety Sucks

Tony came over sick as a dog, so he decided to do this podcast completely sober, which prompted Nhat to follow suit as well. This is our first sober podcast and it was a bit different, but I think we were actually a little more productive, to be honest. So needless to say, we hated it. Kidding. It didn’t turn out too bad. It’s Tony’s birthday weekend and it wouldn’t be his birthday if something shitty wasn’t going on, so obviously, he had to get sick. We talked about the best gifts we’ve gotten as kids and Tony brought up Shogun Warriors. Nhat’s was Krusher and his Super NES. We see some of the old-time commercials on Youtube, which makes Tony feel older and even shittier than he already does, if that was possible. We review X-men: Days of Future Past and re-review all of the movies we’ve seen this summer up til now, bashing Spider-Man 2 to the bottom once again.

Tony complains about work some more (get used to this) and Nhat brings up his work and then goes on a tangent about changing the entire school system as we know it. We end with doing a new episode of our segment Fictitious Death Metal Album Covers, where Tony selects a Finnish band called Rupikonna Mestaus, which translates into Toad Decapitation. Nhat selects a Brazilian death metal band called Couro Guerra, which means Leather War. Tune into the next episode where we will reveal our terrible covers, complete with song names and band members.

Episode 08: Sobriety Sucks

For your viewing pleasure, here are the toy commercials we were watching:

“The Heart Beneath” – Celtic Frost
Outro song of the week:

Episode 07: Tangentron 5000

We have no earthly idea what this particular podcast is about.  We vaguely remember reviewing Godzilla, talking about politics (as if we had anything even remotely intelligent to add to this conversation), wondering how useful the tiny pocket in jeans are, how some people are perpetually locked in their middle or high school heydays, trying to figure out if goiters grow, the longest word in the Oxford-English dictionary, if anyone has actually ever said “woo-hoo!” at a party and just a host of other useless observations.

Episode 07: Tangentron 5000

“Where Dragons Dwell” – Gojira

Outro song of the week:

“Green Machine” – Kyuss

Episode 06: Shitflix Episode 02

We sacrifice our time and sanity once again to review two more shitty movies in episode two of our Shitflix segment.

Episode 06: Shitflix Episode 02

Nhat assigns Tony the movie Attila, made in 2013.

Attila (2013)

When American soldiers inadvertently steal Attila the Hun’s secret riches, the wrath of the barbarian is awakened; the mummified warrior will stop at nothing to kill the intruders. Nhat clearly loses out this week because as boring as Attila was, at least it looked somewhat professionally put together and the acting wasn’t too terrible.

Tony assigns Nhat to watch The Black Knight Returns, made in 2009.

The Black Knight Returns (2009)

When an evil corporation threatens to unleash the black plague, Evan Grail, is recruited by his grandfather, Max, into the order of the Black Knights – a secret band of warriors who have been called upon in the past to fight evil and injustice. Evan learns that his parents were murdered by the same twisted villain, Simon Darth, who threatens to unleash the plague. Evan wears the uniform of the Black Knights and must fight Simon’s evil army to save the day.

Episode 05: A Mother Of A Day

Tony and Nhat ruminate on Mother’s Day and remember their moms’ passings. Weird dreams about deceased relatives… Nhat apologizes to the Laotian community for last week’s episode, when he was trying to imitate what he thought their language would sound like after Tony chickened out. Nhat is Vietnamese and has a Cambodian sister-in-law, so he has carte blanche to make fun of Asians all he wants… but still apologizes because people are too sensitive nowadays. They talk about families and the irresponsibility of the Catholic religion, which then leads into Tony’s roof problems and then Nhat somehow convinces himself that he and Tony could fix Tony’s roof themselves, even though neither has had any experience at all.

They discuss the Kvelertak, Gojira, and Mastodon show at the Ogden on May 5, 2014. Nhat was glaring at the VIP section the whole time because they were taking up valuable seat space, hoping they would fall so they’d let other people have the seats. They talk about drawing the human body and what makes a good artist. They remember some of the weird stuff Nhat used to do like chugging coffee and eating a pancake and egg breakfast under a minute because Tony was harassing him for eating so slowly. Nhat is annoyed that the new Godzilla is too fat and is wondering what his food source is and how sustainable it is. They briefly talk about the next upcoming comics movies.

Episode 05: A Mother Of A Day

Intro song of the week:

Happy Mothers Day

Outro song for the week:
“Divinations” – Mastodon
